What Does Emotional Processing actually mean?

Emotional processing involves consciously attending to our emotional experiences – both positive and negative – in ways that are adaptive, insightful, and aligned with our core values. This skill enables us to not merely react to our emotions, but to integrate and learn from them. Emotional regulation refers to our ability to understand, manage and respond to emotional experiences in ways that are socially (and personally) appropriate.

Emotional regulation is An Essential life skill for forming healthy relationships, managing chronic stress, and achieving personal and professional fulfillment.

Mental Health Matters

Emotions are merely reflections of our true thoughts and feelings wanting to be acknowledged.

But without learning the essential skills to self-regulate as children and not be afraid of showing, sharing or feeling our feelings, we carry this inability to deal with our emotions into our adult lives and relationships.

We develop unhealthy coping behaviours to distract, avoid, numb out, suppress and escape the discomfort of feeling our very real emotions…. 

Emotions impact our thinking, decision-making, actions, physical health, learning and memory... but we don't learn anything about them at school and often endlessly struggle to navigate them.

Until we learn how to effectively acknowledge, name, process and release emotions – along with any residual emotional energy and the outdated mental stories that influence them – we are often stuck in cycles of chronic stress activation and self-protective patterns within the autonomic nervous system survival pathways.

    Prior Experience: a professional background and/or training in facilitating client change-work is highly advantageous but not necessary.  If you wish to combine this with coaching, we recommend our Holistic Life Coach Practitioner certification as the perfect foundation.
